repeating. It was below freezing weather. A combination of factors had many, many people taking turns on the inside and outside. All of humanity in the motions of push and pull like hot gases streaming from a smokestack but mingling with maelstrom cloud.
Managers who'd been caught in between cogs caught catnaps in webby spots and rest areas. The impossible churn of capitalism failing ground the public-interacting businesses to a halt. But in the Americas the spirit of free will and survival was refusing to bend a knee to the dictates of any other kind of governance besides Constitution and free market.
Stores were mostly sold out of produced means of warmth. Someone had come from ice fishing with a box of handwarmers. The spent wrappers were "ironically" dropped into an empty freezer on top of a pair of cut off hands. The people who'd grown up in various states of play between civility and brutality looked from one to another upon discovery of someone's hands in an otherwise empty freezer. Not everyone was able, at first, to cling fast and hold onto that sanity in shared witnessing.
