At this point in the election cycle I shun being told by "social media influencers" and the same-old grist how I should vote and info-mation about tone. Some of us have long had the same reaction to living in poverty. I prefer to work and read and acquire my knowledge and wisdom about real America by being in it.
I stumbled upon an excellent read--nonfiction page-turners actually excite me--in Fernanda Santos' The Fire Line: The Story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots (2016) at my local library recently. I was halfway through reading From Pearl Harbor Into Tokyo (CBS, 1945). The hotshots as part of a system of firefighting pose an American response to threat and danger that is not the same kind of scramble that happens when the world changes in one line of communication like: 3:01:45 p.m. December 7th, 1941, news analyst Elmer Davis...here's more detail direct "from the front, from Honolulu."
